ICA: Artificial intelligence for the prevention of brucellosis in cattle

The information system for the prevention of brucellosis in cattle is based on artificial intelligence algorithms that allow predicting the probability of contagion, collaborating in the control and prevention of this disease. This solution was developed by ICA; a company dedicated to the development of software, consulting and geographic information systems that offers state-of-the-art geoinformatics technologies, particularly for the agricultural sector.

"Your Best Story" is the campaign of the IT Observatory to create and disseminate audiovisual pieces that underpin the positioning of the IT industry as a generator of public value in different sectors of the Uruguayan economy and society. These pieces seek a friendly approach to the highly complex issues for which the industry works and in which it generates valuable solutions.

On this occasion, the information system for the prevention of brucellosis in cattle is presented. This system is based on artificial intelligence algorithms that allow predicting the probability that an animal may have the disease and from there it can be used to control the disease as well as support in the planning of health strategies.

Brucellosis is a disease that affects cattle and causes great economic losses for a cattle-producing country like Uruguay. The project developed by ICA - with the active participation of epidemiologists from the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries - received support from the National Development Agency (ANDE) for its contribution to evidence-based decision making that comprehensively improves the competitiveness of the agricultural sector. Using data from livestock traceability and sanitary surveillance, machine learning processes were fed to establish the probability of an animal contracting the disease; key information for health campaigns and for tracking the life trajectories of individual animals.

The Uruguayan company responsible for the solution is ICA; dedicated to the development of software, consulting and geographic information systems that offers cutting-edge technologies in the area of geoinformatics, in particular solutions for the agricultural sector.
